The Handmade Nature of Things...

Since most of our items are handmade, we carry a limited quantity of most items at any given time. We've made an effort to list items for which we have at least 2 in stock; however if we have a busy day at our little brick-and-mortar shop, there is a small chance we may sell out of an item before we have a chance to pull it from our website. If you happen to order one of these things, we'll do everything we can to get you the item you ordered in as timely a manner as possible! And if we can't, then we'll promptly issue you a refund.

The other piece of beauty about being handmade is that no two items will be *exactly* the same except in quality, approximate dimensions and features. This is especially true for items made with patterned fabrics; however, we're lucky to partner with artists who are as attentive to the details are we are, so together we'll make sure that what you see is as close to what you'll get as possible.

Please be aware that due to differences between computer monitors, the color you see on your screen may vary from the color of the actual product. If you have any questions about colors, features or anything else, please ask before ordering.

Payment & Sales Tax 

We gladly accept payment via most major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover), Apple Pay, and Shopify Pay. 

Our fellow Californians: Items being shipped to a California address will be charged 9.25% sales tax. This amount will be added to your total when you checkout.


Our team will get to work as soon as we receive your order, and we'll ship your package to the address you provided during checkout within 3 business days (but as soon as we can!) of your completed payment. Note: Orders paid by eCheck will ship only when the payment has cleared. Please check your mailing address before placing your order, as Modern Mouse is not responsible for the loss of orders due to an incorrect address provided during checkout.

US orders. For orders within the domestic US, we offer flat rate shipping of $6.95 by USPS First Class Mail (1-3 days average) or Parcel Post (2-9 days average) no matter how many items you buy! Packages weighing less than 1 lb typically ship First Class Mail. Delivery confirmation is included, so you'll be able to track your package at the USPS.com website. 

International orders. We love our international customers too! Please note that tracking information is not available for orders shipped outside the United States, so we will be unable to provide shipping status once the package is out of our hands. 

Duties, taxes, and customs clearance fees. We are required by US federal law to provide accurate values and contents on customs forms. Please note that orders shipped outside the US may be assessed customs fees by the government of the destination country. These fees are not included in our shipping charge. If you are not familiar with the customs fees in your country, please check with your local customs office for more information. 

If you refuse to pay the fees assessed by your local customs office, your shipment will be returned to us and we will be charged the customs fees, plus return shipping costs. We therefore cannot issue refunds for customs fees, shipping, or the cost of your order if you decline to pay the customs fees.

Shipping rates. Shipping to international destinations is as follows:

If we can safely package your order in a Flat Rate Envelope or Small Flat Rate Box, we will ship your order via USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate International. Otherwise, we'll send your goods via USPS First Class International. 

Package tracking. Please note that package tracking and delivery confirmation services are NOT available using these methods. To add tracking services to your package, please contact us at shop@modernmousegifts.com and we will work with you to upgrade your shipping method to either USPS Priority Mail International (non-Flat Rate) or USPS Express Mail International.

Delivery times vary greatly based on distance and cannot be guaranteed:

  • USPS First Class Mail International: 10-28 business days*
  • USPS Priority Mail International: 6-10 business days*

Shipping upgrades: We make every effort to ensure your package will land in your hands safely. However, Modern Mouse cannot be held responsible for packages that are lost or damaged during shipment if they are not insured. Please contact us if you would like to add insurance to your order. If the total of your order is over $200 (before tax and shipping), we’ll insure it free of charge.

Need your order in a hurry? We’re happy to expedite your shipping! Go ahead and place your order, then contact us by phone or email (see above) and we’ll let you know what the revised shipping costs are based on your request.

Lost or stolen packages: Modern Mouse is also not responsible for theft of your package once it's been delivered. If mail theft may be an issue in your area, please request in the comments section that your package be shipped with Signature Confirmation. Additional charges may apply. 

Packaging:Items are typically shipped in a flat padded envelope made of recycled materials. We also re-use (clean) packaging and packing materials when possible.

In-Store Pickup

Are you our neighbor? Request an in-store pickup by clicking "Add a note to your order" on the Your Cart page. We'll refund your $6.95 shipping fee to your account and prepare your order for in-store pickup! Orders placed by 12:00pm PT will be ready for pick-up by 3:00pm the following business day. You'll receive an email confirmation from us when your order is ready. Our store location and hours:

Returns & Exchanges

Problems? Say it isn't so! If we’ve made a mistake with your order, or if for some reason you’re not satisfied with your new item, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your order. We’ll be happy to offer you a refund or store credit – excluding shipping costs – under the following conditions. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us!

  • Send email to shop@modernmousegifts.com to obtain a return authorization, and we'll send you instructions on how to return your item to us. Please do not send a return back to us before contacting us for authorization.

  • All returns must be mailed within 14 days of order arrival date. Returns received after this period will be issued a store credit.

  • Items must be unworn, in perfect condition and in their original packaging (i.e. we can’t accept returns of items with boxes or other packaging torn open). Otherwise, a 15% fee will be deducted from your return.

  • Sale or discounted items are issued store credit only.

  • Shipping costs on returned merchandise and/or edited orders are non-refundable

  • Modern Mouse is not responsible for return shipping costs, but we will accept web returns to our store location. Again, please send email to shop@modernmousegifts.com to obtain a return authorization.

For your protection, we recommend shipping via insured/certified mail or UPS/FedEx Ground service, so you have a record of the return. Goods must be returned with original packaging, in perfect unused condition. Otherwise a fee of 15% will be deducted from your return.


Please allow us up to 5 business days once we’ve received your package to process your return.

Privacy & Security

We take your privacy seriously. Any information we collect from you is for the sole purpose of processing your order and will never ever be sold, exchanged, or otherwise disclosed to anyone. We promise!
