The rosemary dudley designs Story After years of putting my creativity on the back burner, I dusted off my highschool-taught jewelry skills, enrolled in CCA and The Crucible's jewelry classes, got myself an internship and opened rosemary dudley designs. My first sale was just before the 2008 elections and I decided my contribution to the Obama campaign would be the profits from that sale. Since then I've been hammering out the details in becoming a sustainable business. Speaking of sustainability-- resource conservation is integral to my approach to life and jewelry design. My jewelry is crafted by hand, one at a time using a mixture of recycled sterling silver. By the end of Fall 2010, I will be using 100% recycled metals!

In my other life… I was trained as an architect and urban designer, and ventured away from large-scale design to make wearable art. As a result, my designs integrate sculptural and architectural elements, as well as interesting stones or beads that I have selected during my travels in Africa and India. I currently co-operate a workshop showroom in Emeryville that showcases beautiful woodwork and metalwork--Hmmm...I wonder if that's why I have been exploring the beautiful contrast of wood overlaid with silver.

Did you know? I have great appreciation for anything handcrafted, and like to figure out ways to use “scraps” or leftovers. I was born and raised in New Mexico, and the art of jewelry design (and the love of turquoise!) was instilled in me at an early age. My two favorite things are animals and design, but thank goodness I decided not to make jewelry for pets!

I've also been known to answer to... I've always gone by Rosie.
